What Exactly Is Well-Being?

Yoga by the Sea

Optimal health and well-being are achieved when we align with our core values and live authentically with intention in all areas of our lives - health, career, family, nutrition, finances, and personal development.

It starts with recognizing ill-health and ill-being. Our mind, brain, and body are all connected. Alive and Well Coach partners with you to help you regain control and improve symptoms like low energy, low mood, lack of sleep, weight gain, brain fog, chronic pain or fatigue, skin irritations, and/or intestinal issues. Perhaps you've received a diagnosis of Autoimmune Disease, Thyroid Disease, Obesity, or Diabetes. Or, maybe you have Intestinal Permeability or IBS. We offer a safe, holistic, integrative approach to wellness so you can live with improved health, happiness, joy, contentment, and overall well-being.

If stress is getting the best of you, then it's time to advocate for your needs so you can heal. Whether you are early in your career or mid-life or approaching retirement, Alive and Well Coaching has the tools you need to help you get your life back.

Well-Being is, "Feeling good and functioning well. It's about giving yourself the gift of joy, happiness, and contentment so you can flourish and be your best in life."

Coaching Improves Overall Well-Being

Well-Being is found in multiple dimensions of our lives: physical health, emotional health, environmental, relationships, financial, intellectual, social, and spiritual. Just about every goal you might have can fit into one of these main areas of well-being. The first step of the coaching process is to assess your lifestyle. We also look at the root cause of stress and what might get in the way. Then, we offer you a non-judgemental space, remain curious, and ask thought-provoking questions to support deeper reflection on your strengths, goals, and aspirations. A coach is also a champion of YOU, Inc. and believes in your ability to achieve your optimal ways of being.

Coaching Reduces Stress

Stress is inevitable. We all experience different levels of stress at various points in our lives. It's how we manage stress and turn it into an opportunity that makes a difference. Over the years, stress has also become an expectation and a badge of courage. Working longer hours, overextending our time, and not having enough time for self-care can lead to greater stress. As a result, we may have less time and energy to connect to others and focus on our own well-being. And, navigating a path to success can seem daunting yet finding balance is necessary.

Anxiety, depression, and obesity are on the rise for many teens and adults. In the recent report from Stress in America, researchers found that "Long-term stress sustained since the global pandemic has had a significant impact on well-being, as evidenced by an increase in chronic illnesses—especially among those between the ages of 35 and 44, which increased from 48% reported in 2019 to 58% in 2023. Adults ages 35 to 44 also experienced the highest increase in mental health diagnoses—from 31% reported in 2019 to 45% in 2023—though adults ages 18 to 34 still reported the highest rate of mental illnesses at 50% in 2023."

Long-term or "chronic stress" is known to cause inflammation, wreaking havoc on our cells, gut, hormones and immune system. More importantly, if we are not able to tame our stress and nervous systems, this can lead to an increased risk of a host of ailments, including digestive issues, heart disease, weight gain, and stroke. More than 50% of American adults are diagnosed with diabetes. Youth diabetes is also on the rise according to the American Diabetic Association.

Two-thirds of adults (66%) said they have been told by a healthcare provider that they have a chronic illness—including high blood pressure (28%), high cholesterol (24%), or arthritis (17%). And, 37% of respondents said they have a diagnosed mental health condition—a 5 percentage point increase from pre-pandemic levels.

Three in five adults (61%) said people around them just expect them to get over their stress. Nearly half (47%) said they wish they had someone to help them manage their stress.

Half of adults (50%) reported that media is a stressor and that the news is not focusing on what is most important to them on a day-to-day basis. And, three in five (59%) reported that the political climate adds to their stress since the political topics are not focused on the issues that are most important to them. This report helps us understand that two types of well-being are interconnected and interdependent. Collective Health and Well-Being (as a society) and Personal Health and Well-Being (as individuals). Both are equally important and both play a critical role in how we show up in our lives for ourselves, our families, our work, our education, and even as simply as a human being on this planet. Here are the top stressors participants shared in this report in both categories:

Personal Health and Well-Being

1. Physical (65%)   Chronic stress, migraines, brain fog, intestinal / gut issues, inadequate sleep, Thyroid, menopause, nutrition, weight gain, weight loss, high/low blood pressure, fatigue, low energy, IBS, light sensitivity, and more...

2. Economy (64%)

2.  Money (63%)

4.  Family Responsibilities

5.  Personal Safety

6.  Discrimination

Collective Health and Well-Being

1. Future of our nation (68%)

2. Violence and Crime (61%)

3. U.S. Debt (57%)

4. Mass Shootings (56%)

5. Social Divisiveness (55%)

6. Healthcare (54%)

Chronic stress on our nervous system impacts hormones, neurotransmitters, gut health, and immunity which can lead to disease. No matter what your age, gender, background, or biology is, every human has varying levels of stress and every human handles stress differently. Over time, too much stress can lead to a host of issues later in life. Some stress is good and can motivate us to take action. Ultimately, most clients are seeking to minimize stress and maximize well-being in one or more dimensions of their lives so they can be healthy, happy, and live a more fulfilling life.

A coach can support you by; focusing in on your dreams; visualizing your preferred future; improving your capacity for skill-building, and helping you get results so you can move forward and create sustainable life changes.
